A phone ringing in the night scared the hell out of Beth. She answers it, sounding half asleep, "Hello."
"Miss Adams?"
"Yes. Who is this?"
"Are you Beth Adams?" said the voice on the other end.
"YES, who is this?"
"My name is Officer Alexander, we have Miss Stephanie Bongiovi here in the emergency room at Staten Island General Hospital, can you come to the hospital?"
"Is she okay, what happened?" Beth sits up in bed and turns on the bedside table.
"Ma'am she's fine. We need you to come down here."
"Did you call her parents?" Beth is on high alert, with her stomach in her throat.
"She wanted us to call you. Please come to the hospital, I can explain it all to you then."
"You need to call her mom and dad."
With a growing irritation, he says, "She is an adult, we can't call her parents. She wants you to come here."
"I'll be right there."
She hangs up the phone, dresses, brushes her teeth and flies from Red Bank into Staten Island. She runs into the hospital and they direct her to Stephanie's room. As she pulls back the curtain she sees that Stephanie is sleeping. She looks around for an officer and finds Officer Alexander. "Excuse me, are you Officer Alexander?"
He turns to look at Beth and says, 'I am, you must be Miss Adams."
"What happened to Stephanie? Is she going to be okay?" the officer can see that Beth is anxious, he can see that she's scared.
"They tell me that she will be fine. She was brought in with a heroine overdose."
Beth's heart and jaw drops, "Oh my God. She'll be okay?"
"Yes. The District Attorney may charge her with possession of a controlled substance."
"Oh dear." Beth turns and goes back to be with Stephanie. She sits at her side and waits for her to wake up.
Oh oh...... And she called Beth...... This is not going to be pretty with her parents......
ReplyDeleteThanks glad there are new chapter(s) today. my allergies are on high alert and doing anything is impossible so reading is the perfect solution.
Just added myself to the email tracker. Thanks . So into the story I never looked before this.....
ReplyDeleteI'm not surprised Stephanie called Beth instead of her parents. Right now she needs someone neutral by her side to help her cope with what she has done. Beth is that person.
