Chapter 12 - Standing Shoulder to Shoulder

This was a day that both of them had thought about, together and separate.  Both afraid of the day, for what it represented but now looking forward to it.  In Greece, they decided that the date needed to stand for something positive, something meaningful.

Beth was in the master bedroom, slipping into her brand new Versace dress and Jon was getting out of the shower.  They could hear people downstairs talking and laughing.

"Guests must be arriving."  Jon says to her as he walks passed her, slapping her on the ass.  When he sees her in the perfect fitting green dress, he stops and pretends to take a picture with his hands.  "You are stunning."

"Thank you.  Donatella sent this over when she received her invitation.  I love it."  Beth say, looking down her figure and smoothing out any wrinkles.  "You better hurry."  She scurries into the bathroom, running a brush over her teeth before she heads down to greet their guests.

"What do you want me to wear?  Jeans?" he jokes with her, knowing that she is a ball of nerves.

"I pulled a suit out and laid it on the bed.  Please wear that." she yells from the bathroom, with bubbles in her mouth.

Jon dries off, gets dressed and meets her in the bathroom.  They stand there at their his and her sinks and he asks her, "What hat do you want me to wear with this suit?"  again, poking fun at her.  He knows that tonight is a huge deal for her, this is her first attempt at hosting an event and this is their first at one together.  She's worried that if they fail, it will be a double whammy and that terrifies her.

She rinses her mouth and snaps at him, "You're not wearing a damn hat."  She wipes her mouth off and grabs the hair product from his side of the counter.  Rubbing it between her hands, she reaches up and styles his hair.  He is more than capable, he just rather that she do it.  "Done.  Don't forget your cufflinks and tie clip."

"Do I really have to wear the tie?"

"Yes."

"Why?"

She turns around in front of him, "Stop being an ass, how does the back of this look?  Is my hair okay?"

His lips are drawn to the nape of her neck, and she giggles.  He has the hair on her arms standing straight up, but that doesn't stop him.  His arms go around her and he looks at her in the mirror.  "You're gorgeous.  But you're missing something."

"What?"  She does a physical inventory.  She has everything on that she's supposed to  "What are you talking about?"

He reaches into his suit pocket and takes out a jewelry box and presents it to her.  She turns to look at him, letting him open it.  "This is just a token of how much you mean to me and how happy I am to have YOU back."

He opens it and she says, "I feel like Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman.  Don't snap my finger." They both laugh, as she removes the ear rings and puts them on.  She loved them, the whole set was breathtaking.

"Turn around." and she does, holding up her long, flowing blonde hair.  Jon puts the necklace around her neck, kissing it one last time.  Looking at her again in the mirror, "You're perfect."  She leans into him and slowly rotates until their lips meet.  Kissing her, he mumbles, "We better get downstairs, babe."

"Thank you." she whispers, as they walk out of the bathroom together.

She slid her feet into her heels and he pulled on his boots.  She hated the boots, he always wore the boots but she won't complain - she got him into a suit with no complaints.  He stands before her, holds out his hand, "Are you ready?"

She takes his hand and together they descend down the stairs to be greeted by 75 of their closest family and friends for the:

First Annual
Adams-Bongiovi
'Until We Meet Again'
March of Dimes Fundraiser
