Chapter 14 - Superman Tonight

Taking off the jewelry that Jon had given her earlier in the day, Beth turns around to Jon who was sitting on the bed unbuttoning his shirt, "What a great night!  I'm so thrilled that it all fell into place and we were able to do what we wanted."

He looks up at her, "You did great, my effort was minimal babe"

"You were such a big help, you have no idea; plus your donation; that's unimaginable." She walks to him and sets next to him on the bed.

It's late, 2:00am, they both are tired and on a 'job well done' high, neither of them want to sleep.  Beth is antsy and Jon can see it. He knows her pattern well enough.  Before he takes his shirt off over his shoulders he asks her, "What do you want to do?" With his I'll do anything you want smile.

"Can we go to the cemetery?"

"Tonight??"

"Are you afraid?" She laughs at him.

"Ha ha, don't you think it's kind of late?"

"Never. Not to go see them." She pleads.

Jon sits there for a minute and starts to put his shirt back on, "Is that what you're going to wear?" Referring to her evening gown.  "The Mosquitos will love all of that bare flesh."

She jumps up off the bed and wiggles her ass to her walk in, "Give me a minute.  I'll put on some jeans and a tshirt."  He watches her.  When he sees the straps go over her shoulders, he makes his way to her.  Over the shoulders and to the floor the dress falls. The only thing she has on is a thong.  His heart starts to race.  He walks up behind her and puts his hands on her ass cheeks and softly says, "My God you are sexy." He kisses the back of her neck.  She leans into his kiss and laughs.

"Are you going to let me get dressed so we can go?" She flips around and puts her arms around his neck.  He looks down at her bare, perky breasts and just smiles.

"Babies come first." He says, and then kisses her lips.  She steps back and pulls on her jeans and grabs the hoodie that Jon was handing her.  She says 'Thank you!" And pulls it over her head.

Once she has clothes on she walks over and picks up a pair of Chuck Taylor's and slips them on her feet.  She stands before I'm with a what now look and he really can't resist tackling her.  He takes her down on the bed in one attempt.  She laughs and fights with him. "Now Mr. Bon Jovi, you said babies first."

"I'm still in the groove babe. We had an awesome night and I feel great! We put our minds together and we accomplished far more than I ever anticipated.  We rock." He kisses her lips, gently. "I'm so proud of you!"

"We did this together Jon."

"They all came to see you." He admits. Knowing that many were invited to events before from Dot and never showed up.  He would never tell her that because he wouldn't want to sound like he's comparing them.  He knows that Beth has 'it' and that's why they all attended.

"Knock it off, let's go see the girls.  We didn't make it yesterday, I really want to tell them how tonight turned out."

Releasing his hold on her, he says, "Let's go."  They race down the stairs to the door and of course he let's her win.  "What do you want to take? Truck or car?"

"Yours or mine? She laughs. There are atleast 4 cars to choose from, she has her Escalade and Benz there. And he has is Denali and his prized muscle car. "Let's take the pretty blue one."

He opens the door and they head out to the garage.  He opens her door and waits for her to slide in.  Closing the door after she gets in, he walks to his side and gets in, "There's no EZ pass in here."

She grins a big grin at him, "Take the long way then."

"The long way it is."  He opens the garage door and backs out.  It doesn't take long for them to get to the cemetery, traffic is super light that time of the night. As they pull into the cemetery and head back to the Bongiovi plot, in the distance they can see candle light at the spot that the twins were laid to rest.

Beth looks at Jon, "Was your mom and dad here, maybe?"

"Maybe." He looks back at her and raises his eyebrows.

"I should have grabbed flowers from the house."

Parking some distance from the plot, together they walked hand and hand, both squinting and trying hard not to bump into head stones.  When they came upon the Bongiovi plot, they both were amazed at the amount of candles, flowers and stuffed animals that had been left.

"This is amazing." She says to him, with a smile on her face.  I'm guessing this is fans?"

"I'd say so.  Wow."  He looks around, "Look at how detailed they are."  He kneels and picks up a teddy bear, reading the tag  Our hearts go out to you and Beth on this heartbreaking day.  When you lost them, we lost them too.  Jon hands it to Beth and she reads it.

"That's so nice."  She sits down next to him.  "Do you really think that they feel that way?"

"Oh yeah.  When we lose someone or something bad happens to us, they take it personally.
The outpour can be overwhelming, and at times a pain in the ass - but they all mean well."

"This is private property, how do they get in here?"  she looks around.  "Must sneak in at dark, maybe?"

"I gave up questioning how and why, a LONG time ago."

He grabs another bear and reads the tag, "Our Hearts Are With You On This Sad Day" Again, handing it to Beth.  She reads it and smiles.

"Today wasn't a hard day at all, do you think?" she asks Jon as he's picking through the flowers and stuff.

With a deep breath, he says, "If we didn't have the party today probably would have been a tough one.  For me anyway."

"Yeah, me too."  Beth leans back and lays on the grass.  On her side, she's facing their headstone.  "I know they're at peace and are right here with us, so why does it still feel like it was yesterday that it happened?  It's been a year."

He moves in close to her and places his hands on her side, "I think it will feel new for a very long time.  We just need to help each other through the tough days and remember them and celebrate them on the good days, like today."

"I know." She puts her hand on his.  "Are we crazy to be here in the middle of the night?"

"Nope"

Beth starts to tidy up the area, arranging all the flowers and putting all the stuffed animals along the side of the headstone.  The candles were beautiful and made the whole area look like a little piece of heaven.  She brushes off some dirt and dried crass and starts to tell the girls..."Daddy and I are here.  We have some great news to tell you, tonight we had a party with our dearest and closest friends and family.  Your big sister and brother were there, as well as your uncle Richie.  He came all the way from California to be here."  She pauses, "Daddy and I had some rich people over to get money from them, so we can give it to the March of Dimes, a foundation that will do research and help other mommies and daddies not have to go through what your daddy and I had too.  We raised 5 million dollars, I know you don't know what money is, but just know that mommy and daddy are going to help them with research to help other people, and we did it in your names and in your honor."

Jon is sitting Indian style behind her, rubbing her back as she talks to the girls.  He feels a little awkward talking to a headstone, he talks to them in his head all the time.  Beth has kept her composure and hasn't cried a tear and that concerns Jon, here she is talking to them with dry eyes?

"Are you okay babe?" he asks her, still rubbing her back.

She turns to look back at him and says, "I'm at peace."

"What do you mean?" he had to ask.  Her response was more than random and unexpected, it was something he thought he would never hear from her.

"My heart hurts, but it's a peace knowing that they didn't die for nothing.  That's peaceful for me.  They have left a mark on the world bigger than I ever thought."  she turns to face him.  "Look at all of this" referring to the items that the fans have left at their gravesite.  "And look at what we did tonight.  That's a great thing and it was all because of them and for them."

"I told you that you did good."

She falls into him, face first and says, "We did great."  He kisses her nose.

"Are you ready to go get some sleep?" he asks.

"Yeah, I think I'm good.  I feel good being here, I can go get some rest."  she stands up and takes his hand, helping him up.

He wraps his arms around her and pledges his love once again and she pledges hers back.  They go get back into the muscle car and make their way home, they both were tired.  Jon pulls up to the door, letting Beth out.  As she gets out, he says, "I'm going to park the car and mess around in the studio - do you mind?"

"Not at all, just remember - it's beach day with the kids tomorrow."

"How could I forget?  A day with all of the people that I love the most and you in a bikini - I promise, I won't be long."  She kisses him, gets out of the car and goes into go to bed.  He heads out to the studio and in one night, in that little amount time he writes the words for Superman Tonight.  He was moved by what he seen in her tonight, her strength and her determination that was fueled by the love she had for the two little girls that they lost.

  1. Jon is right. Us fans do take it personally when something happens to one of the guys. Fans putting flowers and teddy bears on the girls grave was very sweet and thoughtful. That's what makes Jovi fans unique. Awesome chapter. Oh, and I love how Jon came up with "Superman Tonight" it is one of my favorite songs.
