Chapter 65 - I've Been Through Some Changes

Turning off of 35 onto Navesink, as they get closer to the house they can see that the street is lined with media vehicles and reporters are scattered everywhere.

Neither of them anticipated this.  It's the middle of the night and they both are exhausted, mentally and physically, all they want to do is go to bed.  Climb into bed together and snuggle, putting a long over due period on what was one hell of a day for both of them.

Making their way through the crowded street and into their driveway, Jon opens the garage door for the stall that passes through to the back of the garage.  Once they were through, he pushes the button and closes the door.  Jon and Beth get out of the car and work their way into the house.  As they walk toward the back door, they can hear the people on the other side of the garage.  They all wanted a story regarding Microsoft.

Jon opens the back door of the house and he holds it for Beth.  Once they are inside, he locks the door behind them and they head into the main part of the house.  Beth drops he bags on a couch that sits in the breakfast nook area of the kitchen and says, "I need some wine."

She walks to the fridge, pulling open the door, as she reaches in for the bottle she can hear Jon say, "Make sure you only pour one glass."  He steps in next to her.

"You don't want any?" she asks him, looking at him like she was dead.  She's so tired, she believes that she couldn't even spell her own name.  "Do you want something else?"

He chuckles, he can't help but chuckle.  "Babe, you can't have any.  That's why you only need to pour one glass."  he places his hand on her butt and rubs it.

It clicks with her, finally and she's a little embarrassed that she forgot that she was pregnant.  She's only know for a few hours and it's news that she couldn't get excited about.  She can't get excited about it, just yet.  "I'm sorry, I forgot.  Do you want wine or something else?"

"I'll have what you're having." he says as he leans over to kiss her head.

"You can have wine, I'm fine with it."  Beth takes out a bottle and gets him a glass of wine.  Jon sits at the counter and watches her movements.  She moves with grace and poise, surrounded by dignity  She's a beautiful woman and he's honored that she has chosen to be with him.  Not only is she easy on the eyes, but she's also intelligent, humorous, thoughtful and very giving.  He knows that she's the one for him.

"How are you doing babe?" he asks from where he's seated.  Beth is looking through the fridge for something that catches her eye, she feels a little puckish and thinks that Jon may want a snack.  Microsoft didn't feed him.

"I'm fine.  How are you?"  Beth asks, with her back to Jon.  She decided that she'll slice up some strawberries and throw in some blue berries, together they will have some fruit before they go to bed.  On the counter, in front of Jon, she starts to clean their fruit before she cuts it up.  He reaches over and takes her hand.  She stops and looks up at him.

"I asked how you are, and I think that you just lied to me."

"How do you want me to be Jon?" she snaps at him.  He caught her in that little white lie, but she wasn't in the mood to have a long drawn out conversation.  And if she thought about how she felt, she just might fall apart and cry her eyes out.  "I'm as well as can be expected, how's that?"  She directs her attention back to the fruit and starts to slice it.

"Babe, I want you to talk to me about how you're feeling.  I can't have you closing yourself off again."

"I am not closing myself off, I'm trying to figure it all out." Beth doesn't look away from the fruit, she knows that if she looks at him, she will start to cry.

He reaches back over and grabs a few slices of strawberries and asks, "What are you trying to figure out?"

"The best way to handle this pregnancy." there, she said it.  She feels a little better, letting him in a little bit.

"Why are you trying to figure that out?  You know how to handle being pregnant."

"Do I?" she blurts out, "I wasn't pregnant for very long."

"Beth."

"What?"  she looks at him, setting the knife of the counter, "What, Jon."

He gets up and walks around the counter and grabs her, "We're pregnant.  We're going to have a baby.  WE are.  Can you please show some excitement for that?"

She rests her head on his chest and takes a deep breath, "I'm sorry.  I'm scared."

"I know you are," he nudges her chin to make her look at him, "But we can't live with fear and we can't have you having an attitude about it."

"It's hard........"

"We need to surround ourselves with happy thoughts and happy people.  I can't have you being pissed off and assuming the worst.  The baby will feel that in time and I don't want that to happen."

"I'm sorry, but I keep hearing what you said tonight in Atlanta.  We get a little bit of happiness and then someone or something ruins it for us.  We're good people that are plagued with bad luck."  She steps away from him and dishes them each some fruit.  "Do you want whipped cream?"

"Only if I can lick it off you."  he made her smile.   Smiling himself, he adds, "I'll have a little bit."

They sit in the kitchen, in the dimmest of light and have their cup of fruit together.  Both of them are tired and have visions of their bed in their head.  When they finish, Beth cleans up the kitchen while Jon takes their bags upstairs.

In bed Jon is flipping through the channels on the TV and Beth has her book on her lap.  She can't even pick it up, she's that tired.  She places it on the bed and snuggles into Jon.   He holds her while she falls asleep.

  1. It's going to take some time for Beth to absorb she is pregnant. The fear of losing the baby won't go away until she gives birth to a screaming, healthy child.
