Chapter 19 - Life's True Treasures

"Beth?"  says the voice of the young woman next to Beth on the beach.

Beth turns to her and says, "Yeah, Rose?  What's up?"

"Can we get a hotdog?" she mumbles, with her face firmly planted on the beach.

"Sure."  she starts to get up, "Should we see if the boys want something?"

Stephanie starts to get up and brushes sand off of her knees and says, "Yeah, we can."

The two Bongiovi gals walked toward the shore and got the attention of the family that they had in the water, having the time of their life.  The boys cherished and craved time with their dad and he needed it just as much as they did.  Jon is out there wading in the water, with his camera in his hand.  he sees the girls coming and meets them at the waters edge.  "What up?" he asks.  Looking Beth up one side and down the other, he leans over and kisses her.

"We are going to go get a hotdog, do you or the boys want one?" Beth lets him know their plan.  Jon looks at her with a really funny look.

"I guess.  We haven't had one of them in a long time."

Beth laughs, "I haven't either but what the hell.  We'll go get them, can you work on getting the boys out of the water?"

"They'll be waiting when you get back." he kisses her lips again and whispers in her ear, "I could eat you right here."

"DAD!!" Stephanie snaps at him.

He frowns, "I'm sorry, you weren't supposed to hear that."

"You aren't supposed to say that." she banters back at him.

Jon chuckles, "I said I was sorry, Steph."

"But, I can't unhear it dad."  Stephanie grabs Beth's arm and pulls her away.  Stephanie was a little embarrassed by what she had overheard, but she wasn't so innocent that she didn't understand it.

"Sorry about that Stephanie."  Beth says to her as they walk to the boardwalk.  "He should have said it a little quieter."

"I'm just razzing my dad." Stephanie admits, she knows how her dad feels about Beth and if he didn't say inappropriate stuff like that, Stephanie might worry.

They get handfuls of hot dogs, chips and bottles of water and make their way back to the beach.  When they get there, all of the boys are sitting on their towels talking with their dad.  Jon is standing with them, snapping more pictures.  He makes sure that he gets some of Stephanie and Beth walking with all of the junk food in their hands.

They all sit there and have a late lunch together, laughing and talking.  Kids are digging in the sand, either with their toes or their hands, and Jon and Beth are blissfully sitting there watching their family relax and have a great afternoon together.  They are side by side, shoulder to shoulder, both with smiles on their faces.

"DAD!" Jesse blurts.

Jon turns his head, "What?"

"We've been spotted." Jesse points to the small gang of girls up on the boardwalk, looking over the railing at the rock star and his family.

Beth says, "Don't look at them.  Don't let them know that we know."  She's learned that if they aren't engaged, most of the time they will leave them alone - strictly out of fear.  She's heard horror stories of Jon getting upset and vulgar over the intrusions that some fans force on him and his family.  Jesse takes his attention back to the family and they continue on with their family afternoon.

Stephanie stands up and says, "Who wants to go swimming?"

Instantly Romeo and Jacob stand up and both yell, "I do."  And Romeo heads to the water.  Stephanie turned and ran after him, since he's not old enough to go swimming alone.  Jacob follows her and off they go to swim.

Jesse, still on the beach with his dad and Beth, starts to gather the trash and says, "I'll  take care of this."

Beth reaches over and grabs his arm, "I'll get it, you go swim."

"Are you sure?"

She smiles, "Yes, I'm sure.  Go!  Have fun."

Jesse sets the trash down and bolts to the water.  He had waited all afternoon to take Stephanie down.  Those two have a great brother/sister relationship.  Jesse gets to her, and takes her down into the water.  They have a water fight, that encourages the little guys to get involved.

Beth looks back over her shoulder, "How long do you think they'll stay there?"

Jon looks back, "Who knows.  I've had some sleep in my hotel hallway before."  he shakes his head.

"How do you get used to that?" she questions.

"You don't, because it always changes.  I thought we could do this without anyone recognizing us." he sounds a little defeated, but he's not going to let it ruin the rest of he afternoon.  "Nice will be the days of anonymity."

"And that's when, in fifty years?" she picks at him.  He lays back on his towel and throws his arms above his head.  Beth sits there and reaches over and rubs his belly.  "I love you."

He sits up really fast and says, "Come on, let's go swimming."  And he hops to his feet.

"Okay." she gets up and they start to walk toward the water.  Jon stops her, grabs her and throws her over his shoulder.  With her over his shoulder, wiggling to get free, Jon wades out far enough and throws her off of his shoulder.  The little boys thought that was the funniest thing they had seen.

Romeo works himself over to his dad and says, "Do me dad."  The anticipation on his face was similar to what they see at Christmas.

"Do you?  You want me to throw you?" Jon bends down and asks his baby.

Romeo nodded his head yes and Jon did exactly what he wanted.  For quite sometime, Jon stood there and threw Romeo and Jacob over his shoulder.  Beth did some swimming  with Stephanie and they all had a wonderful afternoon.  One with no hype, interference or drama.

  1. Sounds like the family is having a great time at the beach. Lol, as for Jon, he needs to remember that his kids hear better than he wants them to so maybe he should save the dirty talk for when the kids aren't around.
    Great chapter.
