Chapter 28 - A Little Bit Goes A Long Way

The afternoon spent wandering the vineyard was a great day for them.  When they made their way around the lake and back to the house, Jon asked Beth, "Are you hungry?"

With an I don't know face, she says, "I could probably eat.  No more bass though, I didn't like that."

He holds the door for her and they go into the house.  All of the windows are open and the night is beautiful.  Beth doesn't want to call it a day, but she's feeling pretty drained.  They did a lot of walking and a lot of talking and they left the conversation at; when Beth gets back to New Jersey, she's going to hire a contractor to build a small hotel on the grounds.  From there she has no idea.  Her thoughts are to offer wedding packages and special events, that would include grape stomping and wine making.  She loved doing it, she's sure that others would too.  Jon is hesitant about it, but he'll never let her know.

Beth kicks off her shoes and reaches for the phone.  "I'll order dinner, what do you want babe?"

Jon was stripping as he walked into the bathroom, "I don't care, you decide."

"Are you going to wait for me?" she asks, as he walks by.

He says over his shoulder, "You know where I'll be." and he disappears into the bathroom, closing the door behind him.

Beth orders dinner; a spinach salad with cranberries, pecans and grilled chicken.  When she's done ordering, she cradles the receiver back in it's base and sits there.  She's a little baffled because he closed the door.  They never shut the door.  Sitting in the kitchen at the table, she looks out the window and gets lost in her thoughts and before she knows it, Jon is tapping her on the shoulder. "Why didn't you come take a shower?"

He scares her and she turns quickly to him, "Huh?"

"Why didn't you shower with me?" he asks.

She gets up from the table and walks toward the bathroom, "You closed the door.  I thought that maybe you didn't want company." she answers him honestly.

He follows her to the bathroom.  "Did you call the kitchen?"
"Yep.  Salad and grilled chicken." she tells him as she strips and steps into the shower.  "When are you going to tell me what's bothering you, Jon?'

He's in the bathroom putting on deodorant and 'fixing' his hair.  He turns to look at her through the shower glass and tells her again, "There isn't anything bothering me."

Beth isn't going to beg him to talk to her.  She knows one of two things will happen.  She will figure it out on her own and help him with it, or he will let it build and then he will blow up about whatever it is.  She's seen it too many times before.  Jon won't talk until he is ready to or until he is made to and she wasn't pushing it while they are on their mini vacation.

"Can you grab the conditioner out of my bag please." she asks him over the sound of the water.  He turns to get her what she asks when he hears the knock at the door.

"Dinner is here." he tells her as he pulls on a pair of jeans to answer the door.

"I'll be done in a minute."

He goes and gets dinner from the lady that delivered it.  She didn't know what to do when she seen that it was Jon Bon Jovi.  He took it from her and thanked her, politely closing the door in her face.  He felt a little bad, she was frozen and didn't know what to do.

He pushes the tray into the kitchen and starts to set the table when he remembers that Beth wanted her hair conditioner.  Scrambling into the bedroom, he finds her conditioner and takes it to her.  "Sorry, I almost forgot."  Handing it to her, he has to look at her naked body.  "God, you're gorgeous."

"Yeah, yeah, yeah.  Can you get me a towel?" she smiles at him.

He gets her her towel and she steps out of the shower.  "Want your robe?"

"Please."  Jon gets her robe as she towel dries and wraps the towel on her head.  With her robe on, they both go into the kitchen and eat.

They each make their plate and sit at the kitchen table and eat.  She knows Jon isn't a fan of cranberries, but she ordered them anyway.  They've had the cranberry discussion, she drove into him how good cranberries were for him and he's started to actually like them.

"This is pretty good.  I should go meet the chef tomorrow." Beth tells him.

"I was thinking that we need to meet all the staff and you need to either promote someone or hire a manager."  with a bite of chicken in his mouth, he adds, "I don't want this place left without someone in charge."

"I agree.  I thought I would stay a day or two longer and take care of that." she kind of whispers, knowing that he won't be happy about it.

  1. I don't think Jon is going to like her staying behind when he leaves.
