Chapter 24 - Born To Be My Baby

Security comes and gets Beth during Elton's last song.  Jon knew they had to get in the car and get out of there, otherwise they would be stuck in traffic all night long.

When she gets to Jon, he hugs her and kisses her, "What did you think?"

"It was amazing."  Beth smiles and hugs him back.  "You were great with Elton."

"Are you ready?" he asks her, with a sense of urgency in his voice.

She nods and says, "I would like to say goodbye to Elton, but I'm sure he understands."  Jon grabs her hand and leads her toward the back entrance, with wide steps.  They hop in the car and are working there way out when Beth says, "Let's stay in the city tonight."

Jon looks at her, winks and says, "Your place or mine?"

Beth looks at him.  His hair and shirt are still damp and the shirt falls open exposing his tanned hairy chest.  Her first response is always her best, "Yours.  It's closer."

"They're in the same building." he laughs at her.

"Yeah, but yours is the 10th floor, closer to get you naked." she leans over in the seat and starts to rub his crotch.

He reaches down and takes her hand, holding it from rubbing his crotch.  "What's gotten into you?"

"Honey, have you seen you?  You look delicious." she puts her head back on the seat, "I'd do you right here."

"Beth!"

"What?  You know you think like that, don't act all innocent." she tells him while she fights to get her hand free.  "Let go."

"No.  I'm trying to drive." he gives her his crooked smile.

Accepting defeat because they are pulling into the parking garage, Beth tells him, "This isn't over."

Getting off the elevator on the 10th floor, Jon realizes that he doesn't have a key for his place.  "Do you have your key?  I don't have mine." he looks to Beth.

She starts to dig in her purse, "I should have one."  She finds that she does and they go up to her apartment.

Inside her apartment she sets her purse and things on the table by the door and walks up to Jon.  He's standing there looking around, remembering the last time that he was there.  "Last time I was here, you left me again."

Beth's heart stops.  She stops and looks at him.  "Yeah?"

"That seems like a lifetime ago." he says, looking at her with a hurt look on his face.  "But it wasn't very long ago."

"It's in the past Jon.  Can we leave it there?" she answers back, as she walks toward the bedroom.  Flipping on the light, she can see that the maid has been there, but the note that she left him was still on the bed.  She walked over and picked it up.

Jon is on her heals,  unbuttoning his shirt.  "Do I have any clothes here still?"  He opens 'his' walk in and sees that he does.  "You kept my things?"

She flips around and reminds him, "I didn't come here at all while we were apart."  She's still reading the words she left him months ago.  "What's up with the house upstate and the vineyard?"

"You own them." he drops his shirt on the closet floor and grabs a pair of running pants to put on after his shower.  He's acting like he feels right at home, and he should.

"What does that mean?" dropping the paper back on the bed. She stands there, waiting for his answer.

He walks over to her, runs his finger down her nose and says, "When you left last time and left me that note, you wanted to give me any interest that you had in them.  Well, honestly - I had no interest in them, so they were both put in your name.  You own them."

She didn't like that answer, she didn't like it at all.  "Jon, have the taxes been paid?"

That makes him laugh loudly, "Can you shut your money mind off for a second?  Of course everything is paid and taken care of."

"Is the vineyard operating?"

"Yes.  And it's making great money.  It's a nice place, we should head out there and check on things.  Last time we were there," he walks up to her and squeezes her tight, "we made love for days."

"THAT was a long time ago." she states.  She runs her hands up his back and over his shoulders and rests them on his chest.  "Are you showering?"

"Only if you join me."

"Lets do it." she takes his hand and leads him into the bathroom.  She has her makeup bag with her because it has her makeup remover and stuff in it.  It's always in her purse.  Digging out what she needs, she places her make up remover on the counter and takes out her birth control.  She opens it and pops one in her mouth and gets a drink of water.  Jon sees it and gets pissed.

"Babe, you know how I feel about this." he takes the pills and throws them in the toilet, flushing it.

"God damn it Jon, you had no right to do that."  She walked over to the toilet and they were gone. "You can't do this.  It's not the right time."

HE looks at her and she sees that he's sorry that he pissed her off, but he's not sorry that he flushed her pills.  "Why can't we leave it in God's hands?'

"BECAUSE GOD COULD NEVER PREPARE ME TO DEAL WITH ANOTHER LOSS!!"

He goes back into his closet and grabs jeans and a black t-shirt, and puts them on.  He leaves the room and Beth doesn't follow.  She sits on the edge of the bed and fumes, how can he be so bossy and do something like that?

After a few minutes, she starts to look for him and she finds him in the den, sitting at the Baby Grand that was Brian.  The one that she had moved from California.  She sits behind him on the stool and point blank tells him, "You are pressuring me, Jon."

"What do I have to say or do to convince you that we are ready, you are ready.  You are going to be a wonderful mother and I want to give you a baby.  I want you to be the mother of my last baby."

"Last baby? Where is this all coming from?  This sudden baby talk raises my suspicion."
